THE WONDER OF SURRENDER

Several years ago, my family and I lived in a rented accommodation in a lovely residential colony in the central suburbs of Mumbai, India, while our ownership flat was under construction. I would frequently visit the flat to supervise the ongoing carpentry and electrical work.
On one such occasion, while on my way to my apartment, I remember making this quick prayer of surrender to the Lord… Dear Lord, I surrender my time and this evening into your hands.
I had an important agenda that day. A previously purchased washbasin, deposited in the basement storeroom, needed to be moved upstairs to my flat for getting fitted in the bathroom. The head mason made a book entry and showed me the basin. I lifted it once to check its weight. Though it was a washbasin of a modest size, carrying it didn’t seem very convenient, with even a fair probability of my dropping it. I was hesitant to ask the workers present in the storeroom to lend me a helping hand.
What happened subsequently, however, caught me by complete surprise. The head mason himself volunteered to carry it till the elevator. As soon as the elevator door opened, the lift man at once picked up the washbasin and first placed it inside the elevator and upon reaching the desired floor placed it outside the door of my apartment. Before I had even finished thanking the liftman, the carpenter working in my apartment came out swiftly and placed the wash basin inside the house. Without my having to request anyone formally to assist me, the wash basin was moved inside my house!!!
At that moment, I remembered the prayer of surrender that I had made a while ago. God stirred the hearts of three individuals to help me in my time of need. I was overwhelmed by God's care and thoughtfulness.
Oh, the abundant blessings we daily miss, the heartaches we carry each day because we do not surrender!!
How apt are the words from my all-time favorite hymn- What a friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear, what a privilege to carry, Everything to God in prayer. Oh, what peace we often forfeit,Oh, what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry, Everything to God in prayer!
That is the wonder of surrender!! God just takes over!!
